My Year in Tweets
As 2010 draws to a close, let the reflecting begin. But hold the traditional “year-in-review” essay. I’ve decided to showcase the past 12 months, 140 characters at a time.
Twitter has exploded as a medium for many: from those posting brief self-glorifying status updates that few may care about to newsworthy headlines that affect us all. (Count me in the former group.) It’s served as a remarkable way to document major happenings and thoughts, especially for our declining attention span. I’ve discovered its ability to help me keep track of events in my life. By scrolling through my tweets, I can easily scan the progression of events through the year. But perhaps even more uncanny is its ability to track my evolution as an individual. My life plays out, tweet by tweet. I’m no TIME Magazine. My life has little significance to others. But for my own reflective purposes, here are my favorite tweets from 2010.

12/31/09- #2009inaword: Inexplicable.
1/1 ..and a decade is over. I’m calling this next year 20-dime because I’m sure it will be one. happy new year!
1/3- movin’ out, movin’ in…life is an unending cycle of beginnings & endings
1/8- wonderful talk with @quangt about the future of social media…the potential is HUGE.
1/24- excited to be a Florida Cicerone!
1/25- Attempting to write a paper at the library but feeling uninspired. An overchewed pen is not NOT mightier than the sword.
1/27- Running on 3 hrs of sleep w/eyes wide shut. Looks like I’m gonna have to enter the danger zone: #STARBUCKS (i hate coffee too)
1/28- Weight loss programs have recently started following me on Twitter. If this is a sign, God is really starting to talk through digital means.
2/5- Just got rejected from an internship I wanted so badly. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising every time we do.” :)
2/11- Putting on my Nancy Drew cap and going undercover on the drug scene for i-reporting. Info on salvia or spice is appreciated.
2/11- Reviewing restaurants is my new fav thing. The Top fed me & @vertigo13 a little too well. Stomach is happy but on the verge of explosion.
2/14- hot date w/final cut.
random meeting w/twitter follower @millhopper in the arch lab, of all places! what a small world…
2/16- is this passion? wanting to go to sleep, but caring enough that you’ll stay awake and see it through? or is that just diligence?
2/18- Seeing double, I think. Thinking double too.
2/23- Check out this new web video series I’m hosting for @campustweet! http://camputweet.tv Restaurant reviews, interviews, vblogs… :)
2/27- I think the world is ending. It’s converging before our very eyes and we’re going down with it…or perhaps I should just get some sleep.
3/6- Only by looking back can we observe change.
3/19- must. have. caffeine. goodness, this is becoming a really bad habit.
4/1- it’s official- my family’s moving to the united arab emirates #howmanypeoplewillfallforthis
4/3- Talked gringo spanish w/Mexican migrant workers in Immokalee & ate lunch w/an ex-convict. All in a day’s work…now time to sleep!!!
4/7- Hope I don’t look like a fashion disaster at #gnvfashionweek
4/9: recurring question every night: why am i still awake? My life runs in cycles.
4/13- Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. We need to understand them. What better way to do that than by telling their stories?
4/15- I’ve got such big dreams that sometimes I feel like someone needs to bring me back down to earth. that’s what mama is for.
4/27- Being second best sometimes blows, but may it only serve as motivation to work harder to be the best!
4/28- On days like this, I have to remind myself that I’m not possibly important enough for the world to be plotting against me. Awfully hard though.
5/1- My China itinerary: HK, Xian, Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Nanjing, Guiling…any other recommended destinations?
5/4- Scary thought: Less than 24 hrs before Mom and I leave for Asia. Scarier thought: we might be selling the house I’ve lived in my entire life.
5/13- Is it strange that I feel guilty - and slightly ashamed- for kinda wanting to live in Asia? Like, I kinda wanna be a fob? Oh shiz
5/31-You know you’re back in America when a waft of Mickey D’s greets you within mnutes of landing. Hellllo USA!
6/5- First leg of my summer 2010 college tour: nyc! Listening to Empire State of Mind LET’S HEAR IT

6/9: A Korean dinner in NYC with food blogger @LingboLi
7/5: In Chattanooga Tennessee. Can’t help but say it with a Southern accent. “chattanoooooga tan-uh-seeee”

Done deal- my parents are officially Tennessee home owners. Surreal.

How do you define success? My feature on a jazz musician from New York City who sheds new perspective on the word:
8/10- I dedicate my first real tweet from the iPhone to #StevenSlater. What a gusty move…he already has more than 1000 likes on Facebook.
8/12-My workouts really are limited to 8 mins of #taebo these days. 8 minutes! I spend more time eating.
highlight of my day: skype chatting with my mom via iphone- this is just blowing my mind. me + mom + technology ?!?!
8/18- Back to college life: returning to a dirty apartment and knowing you’re going to have to wipe every spec of dust yourself. No calling Mama.
8/19- I’ve discovered the key to happiness in exercise and enough sleep, both of which i’ve gotten today. Here’s to more :) days!
8/25- I’ve decided to start training for the Five Points of Life half marathon in February. Eating a brownie now- clearly on track.
9/2- What’s great about game day? The whole town of Gainesville bleeding orange/blue, decked out RVs, nonstop tailgating.
9/4- Tailgating in the Swamp- there’s nothing like it #gamedaytap
9/5- Cut my 5k time by 10 seconds today! I’m going to eat a chocolate cake now. #smallachievementsdeservebigrewards
9/7- Gainesville making international headlines for church’s plans to burn Qurans on 9/11. Petraeus says this could endanger troops’ lives.
9/8- Gainesville needs another claim to fame. Fast.
9/11- I can’t believe September 11th was 9 years ago. The moment is crisp clear in my memory. #neverforget
9/16- Spending my afternoon chasing zombies (actually more like hiding from them)…just a day in the life #hvz
9/20- Spent 20 mins searching for my keys, only to find them still in the door from last night..#mondaymornings
9/29- Thanks to all my faves who surprised me last night…It made my night! Just one more test separating me from a true 21 celebration!
Why am I still so stressed on my bday?!

10/7- All day, I’ve just wanted to eat something unhealthy.
10/14- Reed Daines just dashed my hopes of going to the gym today. #badinfluence
10/16- I love nutella.
10/17- Laundry is becoming the most structured part of my life. Troubling, especially since half my socks are mismatched.
10/18- My life in a nutshell: 14 internet tabs open + 3 ongoing text convos + pita bread/hummus/nutella on the side. Too much multi-tasking :(
10/20- Despite my fraZzled mind, I am happy. It’s nice to be unreasonable with your emotions.
10/23- Good morning @SERCAAL2010! I am excited to moderate the Q & A with YouTube star @TheRealRyanHiga and eating champ Koayashi today.
10/26- The one day I rly need coffee I hold up the line at Starbucks while searching for my wallet that I forgot to bring! #justoneofthosedays

11/15- My conversation w/RedMango CEO @DanKimRedmango about the growing froyo industry, brand management & health
11/17- Last night I disconnected myself and it felt amazing. May do it more often. I also deactivated my facebook- we’ll see how long that lasts.
11/21- Gotta love when nothing goes according to plan. Just goes to show that things are totally out of our control and resting in God’s hands!
11/25- Thankful to be surrounded by so much love & joy. Thankful for the incredible people in my life. Thankful to have so much to be thankful for.
12/25- My first white Christmas :)
With 5 mins of Christmas to go, I’m going to bed with a full & satisfied tummy, the entire family under one roof…and a smile on my face :)
